Challenging, funny, offensive, worth your time. September 20, 2007 I have long been fascinated by The Door, so I finally took on a subscription last year. It is what I expected. The articles are challenging, but I can gaurantee you'll eventually be offended if you're passionate about your faith. Satire serves as a mirror of our lives and often magnifies our flaws. While I don't agree with everything they say, I often find my self excited with agreement.
A recent reviewer seems to have accused the magazine of cowardice for refusing to respond to a certain other religion. The Door is Christian satire. They are believers seeking to challenge other believers and so you won't find them picking on other religions.
Wittenburg Door, My Favorite Magazine December 19, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Wittenburg Door magazine is just what the church needs--honest introspection, biting satire and lots of laughs. This magazine doesn't pull any punches, either at others or itself. It provides a unique look at the church from the inside.
I've been a subscriber to The Wittenburg Door (which was known as "The Door" for a number of years) since the late 80's. I've always found it to be funny, interesting and thought-provoking. The interviews are especially good.
Highly recommended for any Christian that doesn't mind having to think about their faith, especially clergy. In fact, it would make a great Christmas gift for your favorite stuffy Senior Pastor or seminary student.
The Door is a godsend October 26, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Christians often need a good thrashing. This magazine does the job. If you can't believe in Xity because of televagelists or the anti-intellectualism in many Xian circles, you'll want this mag arriving at your door. It may help you believe in God again.
I can't believe how funny this magazine is. There are interviews, short stories, and something like "Top Ten Lists" that poke fun of all that is absurd in the Christian world. Lots more, too.
It's too bad The Door is bi-monthly. I wish it arrived every week. Either way, it's nice to see Fundies get the beating they deserve. Thank you, God.

Some of the funniest and truthful things I have ever read. August 6, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have never written an online review before, but The Door is so brilliant I felt compelled. I rarely laugh out loud when I read, but the door is so clever, insightful, and dead-on with the satire I cannot help myself. This is by far the magazine I most look forward to receiving. The reference humor is often so deep I find myself saying "If I knew exactly what they were referring to in that joke I think it would be extremely funny". I have also been impressed with the sensitivity and respect The Door shows other religions (The Door is clearly christian oriented and unashamed about it). If you have any sense of humor about religion don't miss this magazine.
Religious Satire At Its Best June 30, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I discovered The Door magazine about 15 years ago, and it has provided my family with both jokes worth repeating and conversational centerpieces for all those years. If you are moving to a new church, you may want to give a copy to any potential pastors you are considering. Their reaction can provide insight into their ability to laugh at themselves, an essential component to any good religion. If a potential pastor is offended or insulted, they probably operate a cult rather than a legitimate church. This magazine is a great litmus test for those who take their theology too seriously. One recent article that made us all guffaw concerned the new, apocalyptic "Cleft Behind" series, end-of-the-world fiction targeted at the plumbing industry.
